Cutting-edge Operating Suites

1.5 Million

Square-Feet expansion

Sustainable

Meets Washington State Clean Buildings Act performance standards

Project Description

Providence Swedish is significantly expanding the First Hill Campus with the North Tower project, positioning it as one of the largest healthcare investments in the country. The 12-story (16-story including the garage) tower will feature 24 cutting-edge operating suites, including a state-of-the-art emergency department with 31 rooms and dedicated spaces for behavioral healthcare. Designed with future needs in mind, the building includes flexible “shell space” to accommodate potential growth in beds or procedures. The North Tower building connects with the existing campus on multiple levels. This integration replaces outdated facilities, improves existing spaces, and allows for seamless connection between various departments and services.

MacDonald-Miller was selected to provide mechanical and plumbing construction, as well as pre-construction services, including design-assist engineering services, in partnership with AEI.

This project/estimate was a little unique in that the precon efforts took place over years and not just weeks or months, which allowed us to maximize the expertise across multiple departments, including the shop, field, detailing, engineering, sales, project management, procurement, the proposal team, and the building controls team. From that perspective, this final estimate was one of the most collaborative estimating efforts that I personally have been a part of, and it was really cool to be able to connect and utilize all the amazing resources we have at MacMiller.
